How can Religion Brain and The Story of God be used as neuromodulation to regulate our emotions and motivations?

Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) and Electroencephalography (EEG) are two powerful neuroimaging techniques that have greatly advanced our understanding of the brain's structure and function. Here's a brief history of each technique:

EEG (Electroencephalography):
1920s: Hans Berger, a German psychiatrist, conducted pioneering work in the early detection of electrical brain activity using EEG. He recorded the first human EEG in 1924.
1930s-1950s: Research continued to refine EEG technology and establish its usefulness in studying brain rhythms and diagnosing various neurological conditions.
1960s-1980s: Advances in electronic amplification and signal processing led to improved EEG recording quality and the discovery of different frequency bands associated with different brain states (e.g., alpha, beta, delta, theta waves).
1990s-Present: EEG remains a fundamental tool in neuroscience research and clinical practice. Modern EEG systems have enhanced capabilities for real-time analysis and connectivity studies.

fMRI (Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging):
1990s: The development of functional MRI began with efforts to visualize brain activity by detecting changes in blood oxygenation levels. Seiji Ogawa's team in Japan played a key role in this development.
1992: The first functional MRI images of the human brain were published, revealing changes in blood flow associated with brain activity.
1990s-2000s: Researchers refined fMRI techniques, including event-related designs, resting-state connectivity, and multivariate pattern analysis (MVPA).

Present: fMRI has become a primary method for non-invasive mapping of brain function. It has provided insights into various cognitive processes, such as perception, attention, memory, and decision-making.

EEG-fMRI Integration:
Combining EEG and fMRI allows researchers to benefit from both high temporal resolution (EEG) and high spatial resolution (fMRI).
Integration of the two techniques gained traction in the 2000s and continues to evolve, enabling researchers to study brain activity and connectivity more comprehensively.

Both EEG and fMRI have significantly advanced our understanding of the brain's workings, contributing to fields such as cognitive neuroscience, clinical neurology, and psychology. These techniques continue to be instrumental in uncovering the complexities of brain function and informing our knowledge of neurological and psychological conditions.
