NIRS (Near-Infrared Spectroscopy):
A noninvasive imaging technique that measures changes in the oxygenation and deoxygenation of blood in the brain.
fNIRS (Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy):
Similar to NIRS, but it is specifically used to measure brain activity by monitoring blood oxygenation.
EEG (Electroencephalography):
Records electrical activity of the brain using electrodes placed on the scalp.
ERP (Event-Related Potentials):
Measures brain response to specific events or stimuli, derived from EEG data.
P300:
A specific component of ERP, representing a positive deflection in voltage occurring approximately 300 ms after stimulus onset.
N400:
Another ERP component, observed as a negative deflection occurring around 400 ms post-stimulus, often linked to semantic processing in language.
Raw Data Inspection:
The initial stage of data analysis where raw data is visually inspected for artifacts, errors, or unusual patterns.
ICA (Independent Component Analysis):
A computational method used to separate a multivariate signal into additive, independent components. Often used in EEG data to isolate artifacts.
FFT (Fast Fourier Transform):
An algorithm to compute the Discrete Fourier Transform and its inverse, used to analyze the frequency components of a signal.
Wavelets:
Mathematical functions useful in signal processing and functional analysis, often for decomposing signals into different frequency components.
LORETA (Low-Resolution Electromagnetic Tomography):
A computational approach used to localize sources of EEG and MEG signals in the brain.
Each of these terms represents a complex area of study and application, so you might want to explore them individually for a deeper understanding. Researchers and clinicians use these techniques and analyses to study brain function, cognition, and neurological disorders, among other applications.
